With the release of his first full length studio album, Southern Skies, Philip Bell is a writer of authentic, rock tunes, with a firm grasp on the giants of yesteryear with lasting appeal. He has been described by Blues Magazine as having a “Led Zeppelin feel; wonderful guitar playing that ranges from soft acoustic to heavy electric.”  Tracks from Phil’s album have been featured on two Blues Magazine Radio playlists.

Now based in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland, Phil hails from the British music capital of the 60s, Liverpool.  He recently  enjoyed worldwide internet radio airplay of his album and was consistently in the American 365 Radio Network Charts.  Tracks from the album enjoyed over  500 plays per month before the network ceased broadcsting. The track “Promised Land” reached #1 at the end of May 2017.

While Phil’s music has been compared to Rock acts like Bad Company, Robin Trower and Led Zeppelin, there is a characteristic sound all of its own.  As Blues Magazine states,

“Guitarists like Joe Bonamassa, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore have influenced him.  Although this is somewhat evident, he definitely has his own  sound. His guitar playing indeed conveys a  great deal of experience due to its virtuosity and technique”.

From hard rock blues, to a swampy-country- southern-psychedelic-vibe to unashamed Rock/Blues power ballads, Phil seems to have covered all the rock/blues bases on this debut release.

The remarkable thing about the album Southern Skies  is that it was written, recorded and produced in a newly refurbished home recording studio "RoofSpace Studios",  in the attic of an unassuming family home.  Phil says, “I set myself a challenge to see if I could record an album, given the initial constraints of a home recording setup.  I wanted to create something that would stand up as a commercial quality release.”
